Voice calling is not supported on this browser [migrated]

I went to visit an elderly friend for whom I provide tech support: she has been running Linux Mint Cinnamon with Firefox for several years without any problems to speak of, and I install upgrades whenever I visit.

She mentioned that she was recently having difficulty making a phone or video call with Facebook Messenger.
The message she was seeing is “Voice calling is not supported on this browser”.

I installed the latest batch of updates, hoping that would cure the problem, but without result.

Apparently Facebook and Firefox have not always played nicely together, but she has not had problems before, and I do not use Facebook myself, so I haven’t run into the problem.

I will probably simply change the browser, but I found one detail curious: Facebook is only refusing to allow her to call one of her contacts! All her other calls are apparently happening without any difficulty.

Before I change the browser, I was wondering if there was an easy solution that I have missed, or, if not, some explanation of the erratic nature for the problem.
Thanks!
