Why does Visual Studio Code have special keybindings for pwsh?

I was updating some VSCode keybindings on Mac and saw these entries in default keybindings.json:

{ "key": "ctrl+space",            "command": "workbench.action.terminal.sendSequence",
                                     "when": "terminalFocus && terminalShellIntegrationEnabled && !accessibilityModeEnabled && terminalShellType == 'pwsh'",
                                     "args": {"text":"u001b[24~a"} },
{ "key": "alt+space",             "command": "workbench.action.terminal.sendSequence",
                                     "when": "terminalFocus && terminalShellIntegrationEnabled && !accessibilityModeEnabled && terminalShellType == 'pwsh'",
                                     "args": {"text":"u001b[24~b"} },
{ "key": "shift+enter",           "command": "workbench.action.terminal.sendSequence",
                                     "when": "terminalFocus && terminalShellIntegrationEnabled && !accessibilityModeEnabled && terminalShellType == 'pwsh'",
                                     "args": {"text":"u001b[24~c"} },
{ "key": "shift+cmd+right",       "command": "workbench.action.terminal.sendSequence",
                                     "when": "terminalFocus && terminalShellIntegrationEnabled && !accessibilityModeEnabled && terminalShellType == 'pwsh'",
                                     "args": {"text":"u001b[24~d"} },
{ "key": "shift+cmd+left",        "command": "workbench.action.terminal.sendSequence",
                                     "when": "terminalFocus && terminalShellType == 'pwsh'",
                                     "args": {"text":"u001b[1;2H"} },

All of these are pwsh specific and they seem to be sending some key sequences consisting of F12. But I did not find anything in Powershell that uses F12 as shortcut. So wondering why common sequences like Ctrl + Space (which would usually send in *nix) is mapped to F12 + a.
