How can I improve the stability on my Draytek Mesh setup?

I have a 2927 LAC router, connected to a cable modem via the WAN1 port, with a SIM card backup on LTE. This is hard wired to 2x AP802’s, and there is a 3rd AP802 on mesh Hop 1 via wireless.

The wired AP802s are configured to use the cables for backhaul. The overall ‘mesh’ setup appears pretty stable – if I login to the router the mesh is constantly green, and I can’t see anything that looks like instability in the syslogs.

Devices can connect reliably to wifi on 2.4GHz and 5GHz (separate SSIDs) in all areas of the house, and I can see that they are connected in the ‘clients’ count.

The issue appears to be that the link to the router regularly drops out, dropping out the internet connection for anything connected via a mesh node. Doesn’t seem to matter if it’s wired or one of the wireless ones. For example, if I sit in the living room and connect to the wired mesh node (which I set up a specific SSID on so I could choose which node I connected to with certainty), every so often the router, and therefore the internet, will just be unreachable. It’s like the network just drops out, and the node keeps me connected but can’t route me properly.

Same issue occurs with the wireless node. Same issue also occurs if I turn off the two wired nodes and connect to the wireless node (so that I know it’s meshed to the router as root, and not trying to send traffic through a wired node).

It’s basically like the mesh part of things is just unstable, which sort of defeats the point of the mesh I guess…

Can anyone offer any insight on things I should check, change, or tweak?
