How to Ignore very fast double-clicks in Linux Mint?

One of my pointer devices has an issue where a single click will send a double-click, which often is an issue with web interfaces. For example unfolding something will immediately close again.

If possible, I’d like to ignore these very fast, near instantaneous double-clicks or just disable double-clicks altogether.
