For the last few years I’ve been using a MacBook M1 Pro at home with a pair of 24″ Asus monitors. The MacBook M1 Pro is connected to a dock via USB-C (or maybe Thunderbolt – not sure), and the two 24″ monitors were connected to the dock via HDMI cables. This has worked pretty much as expected for several years.
Last week, I picked up two 32″ Samsung curved monitors to upgrade my setup. I installed one of them last week and it worked fine with the remaining 24″ monitor. I finally got around to swapping the second unit out tonight, and suddenly I only have one working monitor. I’ve tried a brand-new HDMI cable plugged into the dock; no dice. Tried plugging the HDMI cable directly into the MacBook M1 Pro; no dice. Tried swapping the HDMI cables at the dock end; no dice (but it does a number on my “Arrange Screens” settings in Displays).
Any idea what’s going on here? The 32″ monitors are the same resolution (by the time I’d realized that, the Facebook Marketplace deal was done and I was stuck with them) so I don’t think it’s a bandwidth issue. Really dig the big screens, but having only 1 sorta negates the value of the pair. Would rather have two 24″ than one 32″.
