When I open Firefox, the New Tab page has a search box, which says “Search the web”.
But if I create a fresh Firefox profile, it looks different. The New Tab page has a box that says “Search with Google or enter address”.
Both boxes behave as advertised. On a fresh profile, the search box allows entering a website directly, e.g. wikipedia.org. But on my original profile, entering wikipedia.org runs a Google search.
What causes this difference?
- Firefox 147.0.1
- on Ubuntu Desktop
- installed Firefox by default, via snap package
