template with quick parts with section breaks

I’m updating a template my company has been using for ~10 years. We have a quickpart for landscape figures and tables, so users can insert their wide tables without worrying about the header/footer; it’s all built in to the quick part.

In the previous template (in previous versions of Word), after the first landscape quickpart insert, users had to set the page after the quick part to 1, and then all subsequent quickpart inserts would have the correct page numbering. This was an annoying but manageable Microsoft “bug” as we understood it.

Now we are on Office/Word 365, and the quickpart behaves differently. After the first landscape QP insert, the page after it is correct–it doesn’t restart at 1 (yay! – bug fixed?). However, when I insert a subsequent landscape QP, the page after it is correct (continuous), but now the page after the first QP restarts at 1 (boo! – bug changed). I’ve tried a variety of QP save options (e.g., include/exclude paragraph mark before/after section break).

I’m trying to avoid delivering a “new&improved” template that requires users to select all, change page numbering to continuous, and then set page 1 (after TOC) to start at 1. Anyone have suggestions?

I should also note that in our old template, the problem with the landscape QP has also appeared. So it would seem that in an update from Word 2016 to 365 (a few months ago) the problem was introduced and I am just noticing it now.

PS – Unfortunately we are unable to use macros for security reasons, so it has to be quickparts.
