I’ve been trying to find some good and cheap AC/DC chargers for USB devices. I’ve monitored two of them with upower. I’m trying to reconcile the reported charging rate for my laptop battery against the chargers advertised wattage rating.
Im seeing correlation between the rated wattage and charging rate in upower so I’m not too worried, but it is unexpected seeing the results for the first time. One thing I found odd is that as the wattage ratings increase, that the charging rates do not increase at the same rate.
I’m wondering how accurate these reported metrics are, if it could be the laptops sensors that are suspect, or if this is simply due to inefficiencies in power conversion (reported charge rate is close to 50% of wattage rating).
