Why is my Windows 11 taskbar (which is set to auto hide) behind windows?

This is similar to this other Super User question and answer thread, however there is not a conclusive answer and it is quite old.

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro
  • Version: 25H2 (Build 26200.8875)

I have auto hide taskbar enabled. Disabling then re-enabling has the same outcome as restarting explore.exe.

When I move my mouse cursor to the bottom of the screen to show the taskbar, it wont show up as it is rendering behind another window, be it Command Prompt or Chrome. This happens when a window is floating and maximized.

I can restart explorer.exe to fix this but it is tedious as this happens every day or so.

Is there a registry or setting somewhere that can fix this issue? I cant find any conclusive resolution other than restarting explorer.exe.
