I’m trying to help my uncle with an issue with the Mail app on his iMac running iOS Tahoe 26.6.2 .
He mistakenly attached a 30 GB to a message and hit send. Since then the Mail app freezes after a few dozen seconds, with an error message about the system running out of memory. I have failed to find anything useful on the web, which is now flooded with AI-generated content (useless).
I have tried disconnecting the machine from the internet and deleting the message from the outbox (“On my Mac”). Unfortunately the message remains in the box and the app always ends up freezing.
My uncle can receive his mail alright, but he can’t send anything, and of course he only has a few seconds available before the app freezes. The message does not appear in the webmail – which remains functional – and thus cannot be deleted outside the Mail app.
Does anyone know of a way to permanently delete the message causing the problem from the “On my Mac” outbox ?
