Context:
On my desktop PC I have had Ubuntu 22.04 installed, and now I need to switch back to Windows 10 for my university. As such, I tried creating a bootable installation media for Win10 on my USB and trying to install it on my desktop. At first, I would get a BIOS loop where my motherboard logo would flash with a prompt to enter setup, then the screen would go black, my fans would whir for a bit, then go back to the motherboard logo. This would repeat on and on forever. Then, I disabled the motherboard logo on boot at a desperate attempt to get more information. Interestingly enough, now I see the Windows logo, but its practically the same problem, being that the Windows logo displays for a bit, then the screen goes black and we’re back to square one.
I am using a Gigabyte A-B350M-DS3H rev 1.0 motherboard on BIOS version F22 with a Ryzen 7 1800X CPU.
Things I have tried:
- Different USBs (2 USB 2.0 devices, 1 USB 3)
(I’ve heard USB 3 is sometimes buggy for booting) - Different USB ports on PC
- Enabling/disabling CSM support
- Enabling/disabling secure boot
- Toggling legacy support
- Resetting motherboard settings to factory (and also resetting CMOS)
Making an installation media using different tools such as:
- WoeUSB
- Windows 10 Creator Tool (on a Windows PC)
- Manually, using the following video as a guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y388W8MaPME
(excluding the VTd-6 drivers)
For the life of me, I cannot figure out why I am BIOS looping when trying to install Windows 10. Interestingly enough, I don’t think this is a hardware issue because I had Windows 10 on this computer initially many years ago then switched to Ubuntu.
I would appreciate any help with this issue, as I’m very frustrated with where I’ve ended up.
