Thi is a process / utility that seems to be presente on all chromium based browsers and it is causing freezes on a laptop with HDD storage.
There is not much information available of this feature but reading chromium forums it is described as it was some analog to EICAR for antivirus scanning.
What I know for sure is my computer works just fine all the time except when a download is finished and it locks the entire system while this utility is running. I have observed that behaviour on the browser task manager ( on several chromium browsers ) and it is always the same issue.
I also zeroed the hard drive and run some test before realising it was the browser causing the issue.
I run a couple of resource intensive programs and they work just fine. Only “Quarantine” utility freezes the computer. Sometimes I leave the browser task manager open and in the second the utility is summoned I can kill it and prevent the lock / freeze. But that’s not way to live.
Here is the available source code for the utility ( I don’t code ) and looks like the only “official” information.
So my petition for help is about finding a way to disable such utility without having to compile the chromium source code as that is something I don’t know how to do. Maybe, there is a flag or shortcut modifier to launch chrome, vivaldi or Edge without it.
Important to say is, it is the same issue with, and without antivirus ( including Microsoft Defender ) .
I fear for my HDD .
