A week ago my server was not longer booting; I did a backup a day before; luckily I didn’t need it: I started with the live (same disto: ubuntu), copied efi, kernel, initrm, stuff, in the empty partition and it went alive.
I was lucky: in case the damage were worse I would heave to reinstall&configure the services: I would have saved only the data.
A better backup was needed: I want to backup the entire disk so restoring would be effortless. To do that I choose Clonezilla.
The original server has:
`
ORIGINAL PC
sda 8:0 0 953.9G 0 disk
|-sda1 8:1 0 1G 0 part /mnt/backup_usb
| /boot/efi
|-sda2 8:2 0 2G 0 part /mnt/backup_usb
| /boot
`-sda3 8:3 0 950.8G 0 part
`-ubuntu--vg-ubuntu--lv 252:0 0 100G 0 lvm /
I have an old Samsung ext HDD of 1.4TB, created the images in there:
`
sdd 8:48 0 1,4T 0 disk
|-sdd1 8:49 0 1G 0 part
|-sdd2 8:50 0 2G 0 part /media/mune/07a0b567-dfb7-491c-a7b5-58ce5ebff8f4
`-sdd3 8:51 0 220,3G 0 part
`-ubuntu--vg-ubuntu--lv 253:0 0 100G 0 lvm
[ note 1 ]
To check everything was ok I tried a restore in a miniPC (intel N-something) but doing the restore I keep having a message about “insufficient space”; that the reason I shrieked the partition on the ext disk [note 1 | partition littler than partition on the cloned PC].
I found guide/articles about LVM or restoring in a littler device but never both together.
Everything looks ok , but it doesn’t work, am I missing something?
