I have several ‘Account unknown’ under my User Profiles in Windows 11
I did follow the advice posted here, to run SFC /SCANNOW: learn.microsoft.com/answers/questions…
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windirLogsCBSCBS.log. For example C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.
In the file C:WindowsLogsCBSCBS.log the word profiles is only mentioned once, in following line:
2026-03-28 15:28:00, Info CBS Startup: Package: Microsoft-Windows-NetProfilesUX-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.26100.7309 completed startup processing, new state: Installed, original: Installed, targeted: Installed. hr = 0x0
How to delete those unknown accounts safely?
- How to identify what created them? (To know for sure that deletion is OK)
- How to know if
Deletedoes not cause any problems? (I do NOT want to reinstall Windows!)
