eBay’s Magento Platform Launches Developer Certification, Affiliate Program

Magento has made it a little easier for merchants looking for a third-party developer to help them set up their store or implement their shopping cart by announcing a new developer certification program. The company, which was acquired by eBay over the summer, also announced an affiliate program to help promote its Magento Go web-hosted storefront solution.

Magento Developer Certification is a professional mid-advanced level certification geared toward professional developers that have real-world experience with Magento implementations. It costs $260 to take the exam, and Certified developers will be allowed to promote their credentials with a Magento Certified Developer logo.

Magento is a key part of eBay’s new X.Commerce initiative along with eBay and PayPal, and developers will have the first-ever opportunity to earn Magento Developer Certification by taking a beta version of the exam at the X.commerce Conference this month for a reduced rate of $150.

The company also launched a new Magento Go Affiliate Program in which partners will earn a 25% recurring revenue share for every merchant they refer to Magento Go. The Affiliate Partner Program is for web design firms, industry partners or anyone providing services to merchants. According to the site, “Magento Go’s Affiliate Program pays you 25% per month, every month. As long as your customer stays on Magento Go and you remain in the Affiliate Program you’ll continue earning your 25% commission each month.”

More information about the affiliate program is available on the Magento website.
