How do I know where macros are being saved?

I’m having all sorts of problems figuring out where macros are saved. I use VBA to record macros from the Developer tab. But, they seem to get saved all over the place:

MICROSOFT WORD OBJECTS – THIS DOCUMENT
MODULES – NEW MACROS
CLASS MODULES – CLASS1

There’s no rhyme or reason.

This seems to affect how macros are named as well as whether or not they work (or, more often, STOP working).

What’s going on here? How do I make it stop?
