Magento held its annual Imagine eCommerce conference this week where it made some announcements to merchants and developers. The company, acquired by eBay in 2011, offers an open source ecommerce platform along with an Enterprise solution.

Magento released a new version of Magento Enterprise Edition – version 1.13. The company called the new edition the “most dramatic step forward in this history of our platform” when it came to offering merchants the ability to scale their businesses.

The new edition offers optimized catalogue indexing, improved content caching, streamlined checkout flow, and improved tax recommendations enable customers to extract ever-greater value, including faster load times and lower overall costs, from their Magento platform.

While the Magento Community Edition software is free and supported by the community the Enterprise Edition is available through a subscription starting at $15,550 per year.

Magento also announced two new PayPal extensions for developers in industries such as food, beverage, fashion and music.

The “in-aisle selling” extension gives merchants a way to connect their Magento store to PayPal Here. The “order ahead” extension allows consumers to order items from the business’ menu or catalog and pay directly through PayPal’s mobile app. The extensions for the Enterprise and Community Editions of Magento are available now through Magento Connect (its “app store”).
