Remote Desktop Windows on Mac: no application sound

I’m running Microsoft Remote Desktop on my MacbookPro (Ventura) and connecting to my work PC (Windows 10 Enterprise). Recently I stopped getting sounds from applications like Teams, Zoom, windows media player, or even Youtube on Chrome. However, I do get system sounds like calendar reminders, volume-slider changes, etc. That fact that I get some sounds hints that something could be blocking the sounds on the PC side.

I’ve ensured all the different audio/RDP services are running and even looked at remote desktop group policies, but nothing has fixed it.

As the PC is a corporate system, there is a lot of security-related software running, so I’m wondering if there’s a difference in permissions between “user” apps and system sounds that could cause audio to get blocked even though the apps themselves are allowed to run.

Any ideas?
