I’m an IT Technician and I have a computer at my organization that has a BIOS Password that wasn’t documented. The user that made the password is no longer with the organization. I wanted to remove the BIOS Password with CMOSPW.exe from <cgsecuirty.org>. This method doesn’t work because there’s a setting on the PC that doesn’t allow me to download downloads from this website. I adjusted my security settings to allow downloads from suspicious websites and it still blocked the download from this website the is HTTPS secure. And I tried I also removed the CMOS battery, and Battery from the HP ProBook 445 14 inch G9 Notebook PC for 7 days and it didn’t wipe, or reset the BIOS PW. The PC is under warranty for 7 more months, but HP doesn’t do Micro Soldering and in order to fix the issue would have to replace the whole motherboard which costs $632. The warranty purchased for this device only covers accidental damage, and I will not sabotage the motherboard with intentional accidental damage to activate the warranty. What method should I try next?
- Draining the CMOS battery, and Battery dis-attached from the laptop for 7 days
- Attempted to download cmospw.exe from <cgsecuirty.org> but it failed due to a security setting that blocks zip downloads from this site.
- Wiped, reformatted, and re-imaged the SSD on this device with a new Win 10 OS.
- Fully updated the device with Win 10, optional, and HP driver updates
BIOS is still locked, and I’m not sure what to try next to erase the password.
