Windows 11 Pro, HP 22b013w
Having made a poor choice of removing the cfg file from an external Windows 7 installer to access the Pro x64 version and then trying to install to a VHD I created a Phantom Disk No Media 0 bytes on Windows 10 Pro. Disk Management won’t remove it, third parties don’t see it, DISM, fsc scannow worked with it and left it alone, chkdsk actually rectified it until next boot, and clean Windows 11 Pro install deleted it to unallocated space using bring online but failed to remove like diskpart with override. Also surprising was the two long formats and clean installing of 10 Pro fails, they still brought up Disk 2(@ the time on 10)(Disk 1 after 11 install) volume F (diskpart actually let me assign a letter to it)
I would ignore it but my peripherals don’t get the normal letter assigning treatment upon attaching.
Startup repair couldn’t fix. Is there a native partition a long format doesn’t touch? How could this anomaly have persisted over 2 long formats and a clean fresh Windows 11 install?
