- Drive: Western Digital Black D10 Game Drive 8TB, connected via USB 3.0. Age approximately 8 years.
- Host Device: Raspberry Pi 4b.
My hard drive is making some humming likes noises (see the video link below) whilst watching a film, no mechanical grinding noises and the light on the drive blinks. The video crashed as well. The drive would settle down after a minute and then work again.
So I did a short test with smartctl which came out with no errors.
I attempted to do a long test but after 10 minutes the humming noise began again and when I tried to run the test again, it couldnt find the drive. So I checked out df -h and I noticed the pi has the drive now listed twice and it also changed from sdb to sdc. It’s also weird the mount point also changed.
Is this down to my hard drive beginning to fail? Or is it more likely to do with my Raspberry Pi? I’ve had this Raspberry Pi setup as it is for a long time now, Ive not updated in a long time either since everything was stable if that might make a difference.
