Windows 10 suddenly giving me persistent error that it couldn’t load Remote Desktop Services ActiveX control

A couple of weeks ago my Windows 10 computer BSOD’d.

Ever since then, I get two Remote Desktop errors on startup that will not ever go away even if click “Ok”.

The first error is this:

“Could not load the Remote Desktop Services ActiveX control. Make sure rdcclientax.dll is in the path”

When I click “Ok”, I get the second error:

“Your computer was unable to connect to the remote computer.

Try to reconnect. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator.”

Then it just repeats. It will never dismiss the warnings.

This is incredibly concerning because I have never remoted into another computer ever from this machine. I have no reason to, and I don’t know why it’s trying to automatically remote into another machine now.

I do have WSL enabled on this machine though. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.

I fear there is a major security problem or virus on this computer.

Any thoughts as to why I’m suddenly getting this problem?
