I have a proxmox homelab server with a 1TB HDD which i repurposed from an old pc i had. It was running fine until a few weeks ago where it started shutting down, and the only log i could find is a message in my root login in the tty (i have a screen on this server and i keep it on with a logged in root session because i’m constantly tweaking it, as i’m learning how to configure a homelab) The message reads /dev/sdb requesting shutdown. I could not find anything about this issue online, and could not find any other logs (looking at /var/logs and recursivelly grepping for the disk label). This drive has zero issues on SMART, and it used to make a pinging sound, a high pitched, like hitting a small tuning fork, it had a rhythm to it, this sound has since stopped. Anyone has any clues about what is happening here? Or how can i diagnose the problem, other than using smartmontools?
