My monitor is sick, and in a strange way, and I’m curious what could cause this strange behavior.
(Of, course, the easiest way to solve it was to simply buy a new monitor, but I’m a tightwad, and more, curious.)
When I switch it on, the display lightens up an shows what was on (I keep my box on, don’t like to shut and start it up each time). But only for the fraction of a second, then the display goes black again.
Looking close, there is a LED next to the on/off button, that also lights up, then goes dark again, after the display turns black.
This is repeated automatically once about every second, until I switch the device off, or if it decides that there were enough tries (between 10 and 20, I didn’t count).
Interestingly, I can only switch it off when the LED is on.
Mostly after the display had its series of blinkings, and about one or two minutes of waiting, the monitor starts up as it should and keeps working, even for short times being switched of (“short time” is up to an hour, reliably for about 10 minutes).
After a longer downtime, all misery starts again.
It first happened at the beginning of summer (room temperature?), and vanished after I had desperately worked on the other buttons on that device, not really knowing what they were good or bad for. Then, the OS suddenly showed many applications in dark-mode, but the monitor started with no problems.
Now, the Evil is back again.
I was thinking of cold joints, slowly warming up, but that would not explain the waiting time between the monitor has been blinking and the switching on again. I have tried to let it blink, then tried to switch it on immediately: doesn’t work.
(Well, the number of tries is not sufficient to build a reliable statistic.)
And, of course, I did check the power and data cable, re-plugging them, but as it is unlikely they are the cause, I left them plugged since the first tries before summer.
(No, I don’t have any pet animals that could have tugged on the cables.)
