I have a Dell Inspiron laptop from around 2018–2019 that came with Windows 10 Home pre-installed. In the activation settings, it says that Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account.
I am planning to completely remove Windows 10 and install Arch Linux on this machine, without dual booting. At the same time, I would like to be sure that I can reinstall Windows 10 later if I ever need to, for example if I want to sell the laptop or switch back.
I have saved the Product Key that we get from the following command
wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey
My question is: since the activation is already tied to my Microsoft account, will Windows 10 automatically reactivate if I reinstall it from a Microsoft ISO? Should I simply skip entering a product key during installation and just sign in with the same Microsoft account afterward?
Another thing to note is that the account on that laptop is the one that I don’t use anymore (I could if there are no other options) so I was just wondering if the product key would help me activate it since I believe it is tied to the hardware.
