I’ve been having issues with nvidia drivers for months, even before Fedora 43. I removed and reinstalled the drivers, installed cuda, blacklisted nouveau, etc, etc. No luck. The nvidia graphics wouldn’t be used.
I realized my monitor was not connected to the gpu but rather the cpu. Thought it was weird as I know enough about computers to know otherwise, but after connecting it to the GPU ports my screen blacked-out. After rebooting, I found I was then stuck in a ‘login loop’. Put in my details, click enter, screen goes black and clearly tries to load the desktop before sending me back to the login screen. Past-me obviously didn’t want to bother with the hassle back then, haha
Looked into the logs using journalctl and the error that was constantly repeated when attempting to login was “SDDM authentication error: process crashed” which lead to a “core dump”.
(after struggling with curl error:6 for hours before realizing I simply wasn’t connected to the internet) I installed the cinnamon environment via terminal on login, rebooted, and logged into that with no problems and my nvidia graphics are now being used
This all leads me to believe the issue is with wayland and my nvidia graphics, which I’ve heard is common
I’m a beginner at linux, so if anyone has any idea how I can solve this that would be nice :]
Cinnamon is nice and all, but I prefer the look and flow of KDE and miss my setup. Plus, launching a steam game in Cinnamon causes it to crash, I didn’t have that issue in KDE.
