For testing purposes, I installed a Debian-based distribution on a USB SSD. I first connected this bootable SSD to an old laptop. The Xfce desktop displayed various icons, listed under Desktop/Settings > Files/Launcher Icons. Since all the checkboxes are selected, I should see icons representing the partitions on the internal drive: they don’t appear, but instead there’s an icon labeled “cdrom0.”
I then connected that same bootable SSD to my current laptop. The icons displayed on the Xfce desktop were exactly the same: no icons for the internal disk partitions, but that “cdrom0” icon, even though this laptop doesn’t have a CD-ROM drive.
My question is this: where on earth could this icon for a nonexistent device be coming from?
P.S.: Next, I’ll try to tackle the second problem: why aren’t there any icons for the partitions on the internal drive? Are these two problems related in any way?
