I have a MacBook with a trackpad that allows scrolling omnidirectionally with two fingers; I use this and am very acclimated to it.
On some applications such as Firefox, if you start scrolling in an approximately-orthogonal direction, it will apply a ‘lock’ that aligns the displacement to the orthogonal axis and requires the perpendicular scroll speed to exceed some threshold to override it.
I updated from macOS 15.1.1 to 27.0.1 and from Firefox 152.0.6 to 158.0 simultaneously, and one of them* has changed the scrolling behaviour so that no matter how much force I apply to break out of the lock, it only does so once the parallel component of scroll velocity is zero.
This is annoying and disconcerting for me; I’m not particularly attached to the previous behaviour of the scroll lock, so would accept removing it altogether as a solution.
Is there some about:config setting that would fix this?
*I believe this was Firefox, since other omnidirectionally-scrolling applications (like the Preview app for documents) still behave as usual.
