My Windows 11 26H2 occasionally loses the ability to customize the Start menu size, reverting it to 8 icons wide even though it was previously set to 6. At the same time, the size customization options disappear from Settings. The next day, the Start menu may be back to 6 icons wide and the size options reappear in Settings, only to switch back to 8 icons wide later and lose those settings again the day after…
I’d be happy to describe what I’ve already tried to fix the problem, but honestly, I have no idea where to start investigating.
All I can say is that this is not a clean installation of Windows 11 but the result of a series of in-place upgrades over time.
