Displayport Hotplug maintainer fails to allow video output after switching video source using displayport switcher

I have a dual computer setup with 3 monitors. The central monitor is switched between the two systems using a displayport switch.
The keyboard and mouse are on a separate USB switch, and the audio is mixed on its own device as well.

I recently wanted to be able to switch back and forth between the system without each one recognizing that the monitor disappeared. (and subsequently messes up display settings and desktop layout).

I found networktechinc.com has a hotplug maintainer for displayport and thought the idea was sound.

Upon trying out the hotplug maintainer, I found that it does keep each system notified that there is still a display attached (and thus doesn’t mess with the desktop), but when I switch back and forth, the monitor doesnt seem to find a signal and eventually just goes to sleep. Both systems are still outputting as I can interact with the desktop while the monitor is black (open menus, make sounds, launcher programs by feel).

In order to get the display to come back I have to turn it off and on in software or plug and unplug the cable, defeating the whole purpose of the hotplug maintainer!

It seems I have just spent hundreds of dollars and ended up with the exact same problem but in a different configuration.

So, what is going on here? Why is the hotplug maintainer effectively killing the signal after the monitor has been switched to the another system?
