I’m having trouble saving a specific Excel file. The problem at hand is that this file will never complete a save. It just sits and spins endlessly without an error. I’m using Excel 365 v.2109 on a brand new Dell Latitude with 16gb of RAM on Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit.
It’s a standard .xlsx file, and slightly large ranging between 65-85MB depending on content. However, I’ve saved other files as large or larger on the machine with no trouble. It’s just this file that gets hung in the saving phase. I let it run over night and at some point in the night it managed to save. However, I’ve watched it for about 2+ hours just sit and do nothing. I don’t get any errors, or “Save Failed” dialogs. Excel just sits in the saving phase indefinitely (or maybe not if it finally decides to save 6+ hours later). Other similarly sized files save within a minute or two. The file was created on an older version of Excel, but is savable by other people on other similar machines just fine. Additionally, when I hit ESC to cancel the save, it just immediately cancels and says “Save Failed”, even if I’ve let it attempt to save for 2+ hours. I’ve disabled all add-ins, extensions etc., tried in safe mode and tried on a Virtual Machine, attempted to save locally and to the network, all of which have returned the same result. There’s no external data connections and everything any formulas are referencing is contained within the file itself.
I really am at a loss here, since I don’t think I’m doing anything that I haven’t done in other files a thousand times before. Anyone have any advice or experienced a similar problem?
