I have been using FTDI parts on various projects for years. Great product.
However today I am finding odd behavior with some new hardware that contains FTDI parts. I hear the “dong” when I plug one in and I see “USB Serial Port” show up in “Ports” but there is no com port number shown along with that description.
If I plug in other hardware that I have used in the past, they show up correctly with their com port number.
I tried this hardware on another PC (also win 7 64 bits) and it enumerates as expected with my new and old hardware devices(containing FTDI parts). And note that on this machine, its FTDI drivers were copied from my problematic machine.
I have also tried power cycling my PC but it has no effect on the issue. If, while in device manager, I attempt to install a driver(windows claims one is not installed) by pointing it to a folder with the FTDI drivers, the install process times out.
Any ideas?
