There have been discussions about changing the startup window size of a program on Windows 10: specifically, how to enlarge the window, or save a reduced size.
I have run into a different problem with Bulk Rename Utillity, which is always too large: the bottom of the application can’t be seen. The problem is apparently linked to my need to set my “Display Scale and layout” to 125% to be able to read the display. All other programs adapt properly, but BRU starts in a window not scaled: i.e., it’s still scaled to the full size of the display (1080p) rather than a window scaled to be displayed, so the bottom of the application can’t be seen. If I click on the maximize button on the top it shrinks somewhat, but is still too large to be able to see the bottom of the application.
Please note that this is with the application NOT ‘maximized’, it’s in the mode where I should be able to grab a corner and resize the window. It is possible to grab the top margin and move the entire window down, but at that point the application can only be reduced in width: grabbing the upper left corner does display the usual slanted double arrow, which on other programs allows changing both the size and width of a window; but in BRU it only changes the width, not the height. The program appears to be deliberately designed to never allow scaling or reducing the size of the displayed window.
The article here on fixing programs that are too small say to change the DPI scaling setting with the application properties. I have tried that, and it doesn’t help: it apparently only enlarges programs and does not reduce them. The article here on reducing the size of a program that is too large says the program can be reduced in size using the normal “grab the corner or edge of a program and resize it”, but this can’t be used on BRU because there is no way to get to the edge. That article also recommends a program called Auto Window Manager to fix the size of a window. I have tried that, but it is not able to fix the problem because the window has to be reduced in size first.
I have communicated with the makers of Bulk Rename Utility, explaining why this is a serious problem for people who need to scale or resize a program window in order to read the screen, but I have not received a response after several months and releases of new versions. I just upgraded to the most recent version, 4.0.0.8, and it contains a number of new features (some unwanted, at least by me), but no fix to the window problem.
Is there any way to rescale one particular application’s window: specifically, make it always smaller?
