Upgrading from Windows 7 Enterprise Edition to Windows 10
Recently, our company encountered an issue with an Industrial PC, a 6-year-old Siemens IPC running Windows 7 Enterprise. The replacement Siemens IPC we acquired came with Windows 7 Ultimate preinstalled. Unfortunately, this newer IPC running Windows 7 proved incompatible with certain software applications. Specifically, we discovered that the latest version of Siemens HMI software necessitated Windows 10 and was not compatible with Windows 7.
To address this issue, I successfully upgraded our “Windows 7 Ultimate” to “Windows 10 Pro” using the following steps:

Created a clone or ghost backup of the IPC’s hard drive.

Prepared Windows 10 installation media on a blank USB stick using the official Microsoft tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Ran the .exe file from the installation media USB stick while still in Windows 7.

Used the Windows 7 Ultimate product key found on a sticker attached to the IPC case during the installation of Windows 10 Pro.
These steps facilitated a smooth transition from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro, allowing us to continue utilizing our IPC with the required software compatibility.”
