Is there a way to make a hole in a monitor

I’m looking to make a smart mirror. In the pursuit of that, I’ve identified that I would like to also install a security camera behind the one way glass. Since people’s eyes will be drawn to it, I think having a camera there would be great for a facial recognition.

I’d prefer not to create padding around the screen so the text can still reach the far corners of the mirror. As far as I can tell, that leaves me with 2 options:

1 – I can get multiple screens and piecemeal them together so they reach the corners but leave a gap in the middle somewhere I can use for the camera

2 – I can make a hole somewhere in the screen

Option 1 isn’t ideal because it’ll leave more gaps in the usable screen space than I’d like but I’m not sure if option 2 is even possible. My cell phone screen wraps around the user-facing camera so it should be possible but I don’t know if that kind of thing can be done after manufacturing. I’m also not sure if different types of screens have different limitations on this front.

Bottom line, the question(s) are:

  • Is it possible to make a hole in a flat screen TV/monitor?
    • If so, what’s the best approach?
  • Do different types of flat screens have different limitations (and if so, what are they)?
