ISSUE: Running Firefox as root in a regular user’s session is not supported. ($XAUTHORITY is /home/kali/.Xauthority which is owned by kali.)

I can not for the life of me figure out how to run firefox on kali linux using the terminal.

when I try to run firefox, I get the message:

Running Firefox as root in a regular user’s session is not supported. ($XAUTHORITY is /home/kali/.Xauthority which is owned by kali.)

I have tried to do this both in the regular terminal as a regular user and root user and also in the root terminal. None of this changed the error message in anyway and it still is throwing the same message.

I’m very new to kali linux, just started learning it and am very stuck even after much research.

I’ve heard running a browser in root is unsafe but I’m not even trying. I’m using the command firefox, and can’t open it at all.. so don’t know how to accomplish that. At this point, root or not, I would just like for it to open using the terminal.
