Magento to Launch Developer Directory, Expands Certification Program

Magento expanded its certification program to include international developers and will soon launch a directory to help online merchants locate certified developers. eBay acquired the ecommerce platform and store-hosting service earlier this year.

Magento launched the beta version of its Certified Developer exam in October – the exam costs $260. There are two designations – Certified Developer and Certified Developer Plus.

Third-party developers can now take the Magento Certified Developer exam at over 5,000 Prometric Testing Centers worldwide. The exams were developed by a team of experts from across the Magento ecosystem to accurately test and verify real-world development skills. Developers who pass the exam can differentiate themselves in the marketplace by using the Magento Developer Certification badge on their resume/CV.

In early 2012, certified developers can become listed in the Magento Certification directory, a key resource for finding and verifying Magento Certified Developers. Visit the Magento U Certification website to learn more about Magento Developer Certification.

One developer wrote on the eBay X.commerce board, “Like every other kind of certification in the software world (or elsewhere), there’s some difference of opinion as to whether or not certifications are all that useful, so that begs the question – Will you take the exam and become a certified Magento developer?”

Magento developers will be gathering at the company’s next annual developers conference in April in Las Vegas – details are available in this news story.
