I am looking at a LAN segment with 3 computers:
- Machine A runs Windows 10 and has a printer, Brother HL-L2300D, connected via USB, which is shared with on the network.
- Machines B is a PC running Windows 11.
- Machine C is a laptop which auto-updated itself from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
Before the auto-update to Windows 11, B and C could connect to and print using the printer on A. After the auto-update, machine C could no longer connect or print. C sees the share on A, but when trying to connect to it, Windows 11 says: “Windows couldn’t connect to the printer. If this is a network printer, check the printer name and try again.” – the name is fine, and works on machine B. So I really don’t know what the problem is.
A final thing I verified is, that when I connect C directly to the printer (i.e. move one end of the USB cable from A to C) – I can install the printer (not as a network printer of course) and can print on it from C.
What are the possible causes for this situation? And what actions could I take to get the connection to work?
I’ll gladly provide additional information as necessary, please ask for it in the comments. The additional info will take a bit of time since I’m not near these machines every day.
