outlook.office365.com/mail/ vs outlook.office365.com/owa/ [migrated]

I am trying to find/create a permalink that opens a specific email in my browser by using some online Outlook service, and Im running into lots of unexpected problems. I wonder if it could have anything to do with OWA vs regular “mail”, if that question even makes sense.

I am not used to any of the online Office/Exchange/Outlook products from Microsoft, so I am not sure if there are more web applications made available. The service I am using was made available to me by my employer, and I don’t know much about it, except that I simply use the url outlook.office365.com/mail/ to open it.

In most of the tutorials I have found about the permalinks, the first part of the URL is as follows:

https://outlook.office365.com/owa/somethingsomething

If I enter
https://outlook.office365.com/owa/

I am forwarded to
https://outlook.office365.com/mail/

Did OWA change name and URL? Can I simply replace the “owa”-part with “mail” when reading any of the tutorials out there?

Did OWA shut down, and we are all redirected to a different version with a different URL, and that could be the reason why I cant make the permalinks work?

Or is this because my employer did not buy some OWA service/license, so I am being redirected to some different/cheaper product which is at https://outlook.office365.com/mail/. And if so, could that be the reason why I cant make those permalinks work?
