SheerID announced today the integration of its instant-verification technology with e-commerce platform Magento, making it easier for online retailers to verify special offers such as military or student discounts.
The SheerID plug-in helps combat fraud by cross-referencing shoppers’ personal information with rosters of student enrollment, military status, or other member affiliations. Once eligibility is confirmed, consumers use the special offers they are due. Basically, they leverage big data for a good cause.
Any retailer using a Magento-powered platform can use SheerID to offer targeted discounts or coupon codes to specific customer groups. Both sides benefit: Retailers will be more prone to offer special deals to people like veterans, teachers, college kids, active military, and members of nonprofit organizations if they know they are not going to get scammed, and those deserving folks can shop online without sacrificing their discounts.
“We’ve heard from many businesses that wanted to support our troops and offer discounts to active-duty military, their families, and veterans, but they couldn’t risk losing margin by giving discounts to customers who weren’t actually affiliated with the military,” said CEO and cofounder Jake Weatherly. “With SheerID, those companies’ military discounts are protected, and the men and women who have served our country can redeem more discounts online.”
SheerID was founded in 2010 and is headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, with offices in Seattle, Raleigh, and Washington, D.C. It currently has 12 full-time employees.
