I enjoy messing around with linux (particularly Gentoo) both as a hobby and for entertainment lol. I am thinking of making a new install but with the / partition seperated further and so I have a few questions on what I should do, how I should go about this etc…
First question, what directories can/should I seperate out? I have been running /home as a seperate partition for quite some time on my VM’s but I want to take it further for non reason other than just to try it, see what works etc for fun.
Second question, how large should the directories being partitioned be if the virtual hard drive is 50GiB? I usually do 1G for /boot/efi 2G for swap and 47G for / but if i were to split the 47 up further into X amount of partitions, how much should each partition take?
Third question, sharing partitions between virtual machines. I have shared the /home partition between some of my virtual machines just for fun and I wonder what other directories I can share between different virtual machines (they are different distributions as well like Gentoo and Arch)
And Fourth question, should I use btrfs? How usable is it now? Does their implementation of RAID work? I have heard some stuff about files getting nuked and so even though this is purely vm stuff, I want the system to actually work so that I can use it for other stuff and other testing and messing around. What do we think about ZFS on linux? Is that usable? What are the pros and cons of ZFS and BtrFS?

Note, this is purely for me experimenting in the comfort of a virtual machine, just trying new things, see what happens and if it would be of benefit to me.
