Tiny Fonts in SQL Server Management Studio

(originally posted to database forum, was asked to move question here)

I recently upgraded to Apple’s 4K monitor. Text in Sql Server Management Studio (SSMS) is now so small as to be completely illegible.

My setup: Using a 2020 MacBook Pro, connected to Apple XDR display. SSMS 18.5 is running in a Windows 2016 Remote Desktop session.

The problem only manifests in SQL Server Management Studio. All other applications display just fine, whether they be native Mac applications or Windows apps running in the Remote Desktop session (e.g. IIS Manager, Visual Studio, DNS Manager, notepad, etc.)

I did read and apply the information found in this article, but it had no effect.

Some fonts can be fixed by using Tools > Options > Fonts, but most can’t.

It appears the only way I can continue managing my SQL Server instances (using the UI client) is to buy a used, low-res monitor just to run the SSMS app. This seems completely insane to me. If indeed this is the state of affairs with SQL Server, I guess I’ll find another database, but I have to believe that there’s a sane and simple solution to this problem that I’m just missing. If so, what is it?
