I’m trying to move my main WhatsApp client from my smartphone to my PC. To do this, I installed WhatsApp on an emulator running Wayland (with GAPPS), and everything appeared to work fine initially. I was even able to successfully link my main WhatsApp account to the emulator.
However, I’m struggling with transferring my chat history from the old phone.
By default, WhatsApp tries to transfer data via Wi-Fi to a new device, but I suspect this method doesn’t work here, as Wayland only connects using a “fake Wi-Fi” interface.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
-
Restoring from Google Drive backup. It started but got stuck at around 10% and never progressed.
-
Copying the local WhatsApp backup from my phone directly into the emulator’s virtual storage. WhatsApp didn’t recognize the backup file (seemingly).
So far, nothing has worked.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue or found a workaround for restoring WhatsApp chats in a Wayland-based emulator?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
