I have a problem, that my computer screen freezes (randomly). By freezing, i mean my computer won’t do anything and doesn’t react to keyboard or mouse input. This happens on Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS, but also occured on previous installations of Ubuntu. It follows a certain pattern:
- I start my computer, it freezes after 1-2 minutes.
- I shutdown my computer by unplugging the power cable (since i cannot do anything by mouse/keyboard) and start it again, it freezes after 1-2 minutes again.
- I have to repeat step 2. one to three times
In most cases, i then can use my computer normally, but sometimes it freezes again after within the next few hours.
At least, i am now able to reproduce the issue. I recently installed the browser ‘Chromium web browser’. Each time, i start my pc and start the application ‘Chromium web browser’, my computer freezes.
I suspect it is maybe a hardware problem. But how can i monitor it and find the root cause? My computer is custom build (several hard disk drives, ssd, ram). Is it possible, that the power supply is not enough? It is a strange problem, since the operating won’t recover from freezing, even if i continue to run the computer for several hours.
