I recently updated a laptop from some older version (21?, 22?) of Ubuntu to the latest (25), by doing a complete reinstall (Ubuntu installer partitioned the laptop disk), and have noticed that Veracypt performs much worse. It takes a long time to open a folder, then it takes another long time for it to scan and produce icons etc. Earlier it was quick. No hardware changes. I am not aware of having changed anything else either. The “Files” application behaves normally in all other situations, as far as I know.
The new version I have of Veracrypt is 1.26.24. I do not know which version it was earlier but probably some years old (unless it was updated at some point, which I do not remember). I believe I downloaded the .deb package from veracrypt.io
I have tested the encrypted drive with another machine and it works fine, like before, so it does not seem to be a problem with that drive.
Is there some known reason for this?
