I am using VMWare Workstation Pro 26.0.0.25388281 (26H1) and I noticed that the stretch option is not available for any of the machines on a remote server, something that is fine for VMs on my own computer.

Seems like it’s not related to the vmware tools or the guest os, but the host itself; because I have various VMs with different operating systems and I am sure some of them have vmware tools installed, but the stretch option doesn’t show up.

How can I fix it? (“Autofit window” and “Autofit guest” are different things. I want the stretch option)

The broadcom docs states:

You cannot configure the resolution setting for a remote virtual machine.

So I think it’s not possible at all… I also found out that “Display” doesn’t exist on a remote server’s “Settings > Hardware”.

Anyway, do you have a workaround? Currently, I have to go fullscreen or change the resolution of the VM itself, but stretch is a nice option that does this automatically…
