I have been running a ntlite’d version of windows 1703 for years now on and intel gen 8 laptop. Lately I decided to test the latest windows releases. To make a fair comparison I tested the latest ghostspectre releases of windows 10 and 11 with no windows defender or AV just pure stripped down windows.
I turned off spectre/meltdown mitigations, tuned off swap file and memory compression just to make sure memory access would be as fast as possible.
Most programs run around 10% slower on the latest windows versions. Geekbench is 13% faster on my old windows!
I wrote some test programs to confirm what it got slower. If I test pure cpu performance, then there is no difference. When I test RAM speed then the latest windows version are around 10..15% slower!
Does anyone know what Microsoft did to the memory manager that makes it so slow now?
(Please don’t comment about security, this is a gaming laptop, I only care about speed, I don’t care about security)
