I own a NUC10i7FNH1 and have been attempting to use USB HDD docks to read my 6TB or 12TB SATA drives over USB.
The drives worked fine on my ATX PC, but when I take them on the road with my NUC, nothing gets detected in the bios (I did set “AHCI” which Googling suggested; also my Macbook Pro M3 doesn’t detect any device).
After doing a lot of troubleshooting by trying different hardware combinations, I’m coming to the conclusion that mini PC motherboards just can’t handle that density of hard drive (even though the USB docks have their own power supply). Is this the case?
(put another way, is there a practical limitation to using a raspberry pi as a simple NAS file server for larger SATA disks?)
