I’ve been thinking about getting some new speakers for my pc. But the problem is I don’t know the statistics of what I’ve got. My father got them for me years ago I don’t know anything about them and I doubt he remembers either.
What I do know is he got them for me with my pc and that was about 10 years ago.
The name on the speakers is harman/kardon but for some reason the pc names the device Realtek high definition audio. see picture
There is also a a large box, a subwofer? see picture it doesn’t seem to do anything but the speakers won’t work unless they are plugged into it. see picture
The speakers work fine but recently the volume knob stopped working, fortunately the knob I have on my keyboard does the job. Also, for a while now, if I nudge the cable with my foot while playing, the sound cuts out. Is that normal or a sign of wear and tear?
So to reiterate… What kind do I have now and am I justified getting new ones?

Incidentally I recently got my pc overhauled with a new hard drive, graphics card and better processing power. So there is no need to worry about being compatible with recent technologies.
