I’ve recently switched from Windows to Ubuntu. DP has always been a bit flaky in my experience, but this is a new level of strange for me.
When I reboot the system, both my secondary (over HDMI) and primary (over DP), connected to my GTX 3060 Ti will stop displaying video (as expected), however when the system comes back up, I find the DP monitor will not show any video. I’ve re-seated the DP cable, and it doesn’t seem to re-configure for single-display mode. The computer continues to act like the DP monitor is connected.
When it does boot into Ubuntu, the secondary monitor displays the wallpaper, and the mouse cursor can move between the two monitors as if it’s connected, but the primary monitor remains blank.
What’s stranger, is the monitor refuses to respond to any other input – the buttons on the back for pulling up the OSD is unresponsive during this time, and I actually cannot turn off the monitor – the LED power light remains white, instead of orange.
The only way to remedy this so far is to unplug the primary monitor, which forces the system to reconfigure and put everything on a single monitor, and then plug the power cable back in, which detects the monitor being connected, and puts everything back – video displays on primary and secondary, and everything works as expected.
I’m completely stumped at what’s happening, and I’ve got no clue what else I can do to fix or even troubleshoot further. Any assistance to fix this is much appreciated.
